Leaning to Our Countries Excellence

Dear President Duterte,

I haven't met you in person yet but I have surely watched you in television. You were by 39% of the countries population as the first President from Mindanao. Being the President of the Philippines comes with huge responsibility but you seem to be handling it very well despite some mistakes. I am amazed that you were able to make a change in our country within a short period of time. You are even pertained to as the President with a hand of steel because of the way you execute your campaigns. I must say, your leadership may not be perfect but it is somehow beneficial is some aspects.

You were able to decrease the crime rate, expose corrupt officials, and fight the use of illegal drugs in our country by the use of your nationwide  campaigns within a short period of time which is truly impressive, but for what cause? During your campaigns, specially on the war on drugs, many innocent civilians were affected. In implementing programs for the betterment of our country, you should always take into account the injustices that innocent civilian might  experience during the implementation period.

You are also handling terrorism on different parts of your country by signing the Republic Act No. 11479. Terrorism is crime against people and humanity that strikes anytime and anywhere. Terrorism surely causes unimaginable grief and horror to many. As I have understood, the Republic Act No. 11479 is supposed to be a comprehensive approach to terrorism but as I was reading about the law, I have noticed that it defies some of the human rights such as freedom of speech. In my opinion, leaders should create solutions to problems with regards to the need of their people whilst  ensuring the well-beings of his people.

Besides those, you are also striving to think of ways to pursue our economic growth. The lack of infrastructure in the Philippines is considered to be the it's Achilles' hill and in response to this, your administration implemented the Build! Build! Build! (BBB) program which should fix our country's infrastructural backlog resulting in the increase the country's gross domestic product (GDP).

Another step for growth of our economy is making education on tertiary levels free for everyone. Education can indirectly stimulate economic growth by increasing innovation, productivity, and human capital.

Being leader requires great responsibility for the future of your people rests in your hands. May you continue to implement programs while being mindful of it's negative effects for the benefit of the whole country. Lean towards the excellence of your people and the excellence of your country will follow.

                                                                                                              Jireh Grace Alaman
