To Fill the Void Regarding Safety

The Philippines is located is the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area in the basin of the Pacific ocean where numerous earthquakes occur, causing the country to experience seismic and volcanic tremors. In the past months, a lot of volcanic irregularities and earthquakes have been recorded. Luckily, no significant damage or loss has been brought. These recorded geographic activities are indications that the big one is probably coming given that the major fault lines of the Philippines have been disturbed. This makes it a must for the country to be prepared in any time of occurrence to minimize its danger.

Earthquakes, like other natural disasters, are unpredictable. It is  one of the greatest uncertainties of our world. When and where an earthquake would occur cannot be predicted unlike storms wherein warnings can be sent out by government agencies. Despite that, with proper knowledge, planning and training everyone would be aware of how to appropriately react before, during and after an earthquake.

Given that we are living in the Philippines which is located in an area where there is frequent earthquake occurrence, planning on what to do during and after an earthquake should be taken seriously. The greatest hazard during earthquakes are being hit by falling objects specially when the people are located near building or other tall establishments. To avoid this danger, open areas must be identified and introduced to everyone beforehand in order for people to know where to go in instances of earthquake. This is another key point in assuring the safety of people for it reduces possible injuries and deaths caused by earthquakes.

However, plans are considered useless if not known by people. Created plans cannot be considered effective unless they are known by everyone for there is no use in planning if the people are not able follow because of lack in knowledge. Knowledge about earthquakes and what to do during earthquakes are extremely beneficial to everyone. By carrying out drills and providing information, multiple lives can be saved. People with enough awareness would be safer in times of emergency for they would know how to react appropriately.

The created plans must then be exercised periodically to refresh memories and to inform those who are not yet informed. Without training, plans would be useless for there would be a very little chance that the plans would be followed. Training is must to shape the preparedness of citizens to reduce fatalities.

Taking into account that Philippines is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire where earthquakes and volcanic activities are likely to happen, preparedness is a necessity to everyone. Simultaneous earthquake drills informs people on how to react in times of earthquake occurrence. It raises awareness and increases individual safety. It also provides training on what to do during and after earthquakes which reduces panic and injury. Simultaneous earthquake drills are vital in improving our country's preparedness. Our safety lies on our concerted effort in building a safer, adaptive and resilient country.
