Light in a Quagmire

Valentine's Day, an annual holiday celebrating love and affection between a person to another. The phrase “my Valentine,” is often heard in the month of February, a month considered to be the month if love. Every 14th of February, Valentine's day is celebrated not only by romantic couples but also by families and friends. To cut it short, Valentine’s day is non-partisan. Love is present all year round but the 14th of February is a special day dedicated to celebrating love. Chocolates, heart shaped balloons, and letters are the most common things that can be seen during Valentine’s day. People give out these simple presents to express their love and adoration towards someone they hold dear on this special day of hearts.

“ My Valentine,” a line often read or heard during the special day when people meet. The line is often said in person, however, the pandemic has caused restrictions about meeting face to face. Of course  love can be expressed and felt no matter the situation or distance but it has become very difficult for everyone. The usual romantic events, dates, and vacations that are much awaited for has become almost impossible because of the risks associated to it. Despite the situation, everyone must be reminded that the purpose of celebrating Valentine’s day is to express love and affection to significant others, family, and friends.

Valentine’s day in our home was celebrated like how we traditionally celebrated it. Spending time with the family, watching movies, and cooking to discover new a new recipe, it may sound simple but the joy is unimaginable. It may not be extravagant but it is more than enough for each family member to feel and express their love. Love is timeless but we often fail to express it and to our advantage, we can express the love we failed to express on Valentine’s day.

Love is full of ups and downs. There is no such thing as a perfect relationship when it comes to either family or lover. There will always be hardships that would strengthen the bond between people. Our current situation can be compared to a relationship and right now we are experiencing the hard times but we must stay positive and do our best to get through it for a rainbow of joy lies after this storm of sorrow.
