An Opportunity To Grow

Our world has been turned upside down by the current pandemic. A lot of people, almost everyone, are suffering and mourning loses this year. In times of difficulty, the standard reaction would be to seek for comfort and refuge in churches, however, the danger of COVID-19 is serving as a hindrance to do so. Humanity, in time, is homebound. It is risky and difficult to attend church which pushed cy hurches to reach out to their parishioners. Attending church during the pandemic may be nearly impossible but with technology, church is just a few clicks away. Nothing can stop us from communicatibg and praising our creator. The same goes with the Lenten season. Ofcourse, there are alterations from the tradition Lenten season due to the pandemic but the important thing is being able to focus on God durinh this season.

Like quarantine which is used to secure physical health, Lenten season is used bot only to protect spiritual health but also to strengthen it. Lenten period has a purpose to restrain our souls, bodies, thoughts and senses by small small hardships freely endured. This is to recocer the integrity the God intented for us. During the Lenten season, we observe prayer, fasting, and almsgiving to strengthen our faith and improve ourselves in every aspect. Praying, fasting, and almsgiving are done in attempt to redirect our lives to be more like Jesus.

This year's Lenten season is pushed through the pandemic like last year. Comparing the experiences of Lenten season between last year and the present year, it is can be easily pointed out thar this year's Lenten season is deliberately easier than last year for people has already gained experiences and learned their lessons on how to get by. Although it is sad that some people has to go through involuntary fasting due to the hardships brought by the pandemic, we must still keep our faith and use the period to communicate toward the Lord.

Like what they say, we cannot come out of a crisis as we were before because its only either we come out better than we were before or we come out worse. We are all informed that there is no real " return to normal" because this pandemic has already adfected so many things and some are irreversible. Despite all the bad effects of this pandemic, it has given us a great opportunity to improve spiritually. Embrace the Lenten triad of fasting, praying, and alsgiving and grow in holiness.
