A Gift Of Freedom
The freedom of the people is the wealth of the country . For many years we, Filipinos, have been experiencing freedom. Meanwhile, many years ago, the luxury of being free as a citizen and as a country was not granted upon our country. Instead, Filipinos has became slaves in their own backyard. Everything comes with a price, so does the freedom we are indulging to. Knowing this, what price did the country and it's citizens pay? The answer is very simple, they dedicated their lives. This heroic act of these heroes are worthy of more than just appreciation on the Day Of Valor. Commemorating the Filipino and American Soldiers that fought for the freedom of our country is the least we can do. In any situation, we should all find time to remember and appreciate their sacrifices.
On the 9th of April 1942, during World War 2, Major General Edward P. King Jr. was forced to surrender his troops to the Japanese army. These troops were made up of American, Filipino, and Chinese soldiers, who became prisoners of war. These soldiers were then subjected to the Bataan Death March wherein they were tortured to walk 150 km to a prison camp without any food and water under the scirching sun. Now, every year on the 9th of April, a holiday is celebrated to honor the bravery of those who died and the contribution of Bataan to the eventual victory of the allied forces.
Day of Valor or Araw ng Kagitingan is dedicated to those who faught for their home country. As beneficiaries of their sacrifices, we must pay respect and honor to them. The freedom and peace we are now experiencing wouldn't be present if not for them. Therefore as Filipino citizens benefitting from the sacrifices of the brave heroes, it is our obligation to maintain the peace and freedom that they have paid off their lives for.
